The story of Michael Oher

Essay # 2

The Blind Side tells the story of Michael Oher, a homeless boy with a troubled past. Michael mother was a drug addict, and because of that he lived with several substitute families, but he always ended up running away from them, even though he was a great, very polite and gentle person. Michael had a very difficult childhood due to the environment where he grew up, but he found a family that gave him a home and supported him a lot, which helped him to succeed in football until he became a professional player.

Due to his difficult childhood, Michael did not received a proper education, so he had communication problems, he was very shy and got nervous easily, it was because of this that his grades were very low. He seemed to suffer from some kind of attention disorder, making it hard for him to get good grades, not because he was not smart enough, he did not showed any interest in learning and also did not had anybody to encourage him to do it

Michael had the luck to meet the Tuohy family, especially Leigh Ann and her son ¨S.J¨. They welcomed him into their family and showed him the importance of having someone to thrust, the value of the family and how everything is better when you have someone to support him. They helped him to get over his personal issues and to become a better student.

After solving his problem with studies, he was able to explode his biggest ability; sports, specifically for Football. He was an amazing player and helped his High School team to get many titles, his small brother started sending videos of him playing to many universities, and soon, many of them were interested on him, and visited him to offer him scholarships. At the end, he decided to play for Mississippi University, which was the same college his parents attended to, that led him to get a professional contract on the NFL.

Michael was able to overcome many obstacles in his life, coming from a poor family, in a drugs environment, mainly because of the support he got from his new family, who believed in him, and knew that he was capable of achieving all those things. We learned from this movie, that nothing is impossible, as long as you have people that loves you and supports you around.
